Services

Day Service

There are two full time employed solicitors working at the centre who are able to provide legal advice between 9am – 5pm Monday to Thursday by appointment. The centre is not able to provide advice on some areas of law, such as commercial law, conveyancing and personal injuries. An appropriate referral will be given in those situations.

Legal Advice Evenings

On the first and third Wednesday of the month there are legal advice evenings staffed by volunteers. Volunteer solicitors, social workers, co-ordinators and a registered migration agent provide legal information, advice, referrals and counselling to members of the community by appointment.

Please contact us if you would like to volunteer as an evening co-ordinator, solicitor, barrister, social worker or migration agent.

WCCS is located at Shop 9, Whitsunday Business Centre, 230 Shute Harbour Road, Cannonvale.

Proserpine Community Centre is located at 9 Chapman Street, Proserpine.

These outreach services will include providing confidential legal advice and also may include general information sessions on certain areas of law, such as family law. Please contact us on (07) 4953 1211 to book your appointment with a solicitor.

Family Relationship Centre Partnership – Separating Parents Information Session

The MRCLC delivers information sessions at the Family Relationship Centre in Mackay in partnership with Legal Aid (Mackay) and the Family Relationship Centre. The MRCLC has received funding to participate in this partnership from the Commonwealth Attorney-General's Department. The sessions are designed to inform and educate separated parents about their legal rights, responsibilities and obligations and their children’s rights and to prepare separated parents for mediation.

In the future we intend to extend these information sessions to Moranbah and the Whitsunday region.

Registered Migration Agent

The centre has a volunteer registered migration agent able to provide migration advice and assistance by appointment at the MRCLC, however does not assist with completing visa applications. The Code of Conduct for registered migration agents is located at: https://www.mara.gov.au/Agent-Information/Code-of-Conduct/Code-of-Conduct/default.aspx. In the 2011 - 2012 financial year the Queensland Department of Justice and Attorney-General has provided funding towards the expenses of operating this service.
